Blackening, oxidation
Steel blackening, called oxidation, is a chemical process of covering the surface of metals (steel or cast iron) with a thin layer of their oxides. This method effectively protects details against corrosion, while giving the surface a black aesthetic appearance.
We provide a blackening service for ordinary steel, which is poorly resistant to corrosion. Oxidation is usually performed chemically by immersing steel objects in a boiling solution, this is the so-called “warm method”. We also oxidize details using the “cold method” using appropriate chemicals. The latter method of blackening does not require heating the details, but the final effect is not as clear as in the case of heat oxidation.
